World Disability Day

World Disabled Day is held on 3 December every year. The day, also known as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, aims to raise public awareness, understanding and recognition of people with disabilities and to celebrate their accomplishments and contributions. The integration of disabled people into the mainstream of society is critical. Persons with disabilities are frequently discriminated against and it is never an acceptable circumstance. In order to include people with disabilities in the mainstream of each aspect of their societies’ social, political, economic, and cultural status, society must take reasonable steps.

It has been celebrated since 1992 when World Disabled Day was officially recognized to encourage compassion and recognition of disability problems and to help disabled people’s self-respect, rights, and better living. The General Assembly of the United Nations declared 1981 as the International Year of Disabled Persons.

Types of disability

Physical disability: The body, organs, and organs are usually related to this form of disability. The eye can grow muscles, nerves, the respiratory system, the heart, the digestive system, the limbs.

Sensory disability: The senses of seeing and hearing are connected to it. Sensory disability is the non-normalization of the eyes, ears, throat, and tongue.

Mental disability: Signs of mental disability are the loss of both cognitive and intellectual skills in an individual.

The importance of observing world disability day

Compared with those without disabilities, people with disabilities typically have worse health, fewer educational opportunities, weaker economic chances, and higher rates of poverty. They may simply be regarded as the world’s largest minority” and the explanation is undoubted “lack of services available to them”

And social variables impact their lifestyle. Children with disabilities witness almost four times more abuse than average children of their age, as per the statistics. Similarly, people with disabilities are also 1.5 times more likely than healthy adults to become victims of abuse. Another figure indicates that four times more likely to experience abuse are adults with mental health problems.

All this can be avoided if the disability is not taken by society as a stigma or an aspect of discrimination. The proclamation of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD) was important to eradicate misunderstandings about disabilities and to increase awareness of the need for social help for people with disabilities.

How to observe world disability day

  1. Become a Disabled Supporter

Look at society and the places you visit. Ask the store owner, mall manager, and/or the elected officials to install them if accommodations for the disabled are not in place. It’s the rule.

  1. Lend a hand of support

If they know anyone who needs help, inquires at the nearest senior center or home, or the nurses at an outpatient clinic. Offer to assist. Often it would make a lot of difference for someone with a disability to only deliver a prescription, drop off the mail, or pick up a few items at the grocery store, basic tasks for you.

  1. Demonstrate any compassion

You know you can be irritable even when you’re tired, harried, and in a hurry. Don’t snap or take your anger out on someone who’s slowing you down. Maybe they’re disabled. If so, their lives are still like that, although it is possible that your issues are fleeting. Likewise, do not let your day be ruined by any bad humor they show. This is when anything can be smoothed over by a smile.

World disability day: Significance

Most people don’t really realize how many people in their house are disabled in their society. Whether or not they get equal rights in society. To get good health and respect and to get ahead in life, he needs some support from ordinary people. However, generally, people in society do not know all their needs. According to statistics, it has been found that about 15 percent of people in the world are disabled. Therefore, it is very important to celebrate this festival to make people aware of the real situation of disabled people. In all facets of life, people with disabilities come under the “world’s largest minorities” and face a number of challenges due to a lack of sufficient services and protections for them.

Observance, if important, of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities for the following reasons:

  1. Around 15 percent of the world’s population is affected by some form of impairment. In developed countries, 80 percent of these people remain.
  2. Persons with disabilities are recognized as the largest minority in the world. They have less health, fewer gains in education, and fewer economic opportunities.
  3. All of this is mainly because of the lack of transportation and information and technology facilities available to them.
  4. Removing obstacles to the participation of people with disabilities would allow them to be fully engaged in social life. The whole population of individuals with disabilities will benefit from this.
  5. Barriers faced by people with disabilities are disruptive to the whole of society.

Make concerted efforts to work towards improving accessibility and opportunities for people with disabilities on this World Disability Day. Progress and prosperity must be accomplished for one and all!
