Anti Untouchability Week

Week of anti-untouchability (from 02-08 to October) is celebrated for raising awareness amongst people about caste based untouchability in society. Initially, the feeling of untouchability was very high for the lower castes, that is, the dalits by the upper caste people. In society, Dalits were considered untouchable by the upper caste people and they were discriminated against. In view of this, the Week of Untouchability Act was passed by the Legislature of Parliament on May 24, 2011 to remove the feelings of discrimination against Dalits in the society. This is an important step taken by the government to provide equal opportunities for all sections of Indian society and to make the country a developed country.

These programs reflect the principle of equality by the legislature of the Parliament i.e. in society all the same in the meaning of human rights and dignity. Even after declaring this program, the country has faced many inequalities and incidents of injustice. In rural and urban areas, dalits have been treated very badly. Therefore, it can be said that these programs are not acting as an influential agenda on the discrimination with the Dalits, so it can not be called a good achievement.

According to a report, it has been mentioned that at least half a dozen people have lost their existence only due to touching the kitchen and water of high caste people in different districts. Families of Dalits were displaced and conditions of intermarried couples became pitiable. They started asking for their rights and identity. Victims of Dalit class are beaten and beat by upper caste people and have been given a form of refuge in their own country.

After such a horrible situation in society, soon a large number of untouchability programs were organized. Allegedly, it has been mentioned that in recent years (2012-13), the incident of violence and cruelty against Dalits (80%) is based on caste based intolerance and untouchability. With the members of Dalit civil society, Dalit rights activists organized a 12-day national campaign to overcome caste-based inequality and untouchability. Through this campaign, he has tried to put pressure on the government by applying the decisions taken by the government and attracting the attention of political parties and law enforcement units.

Rather than becoming strong and harsh constitutional law against untouchability, due to the uncertainty of implementing this law, it has still remained as a major national issue. To make the country untouched, attracting the attention of the youth of the country, it is necessary to run a youth orientation program. In addition to ensuring equal justice for Dalits, there is a special request for Dalit based organizations to enforce the policies and laws empowering the government to remove caste based inequality.

To get equal rights for the underdog and change the social attitude towards untouchability, the Dalit and non-Dalit leaders of political parties need to work together jointly.
